Student Success statement
“Success is dependent on effort.”
-Sophocles, Greek Dramatist

This quote is saying that in order to be successful you need to put effort into it. These two things are linked together. If you want to be a doctor, how well a doctor you will become shall depend on how much effort you put in. If you study hard, do all your work, and always choose the right then it is inevitable that you will become successful. In contrast if you put in little effort then your chances and magnitude of success are lowered.

How to take on college studying
Part 2
Choose Where to Study
Where you should study depends on two factors: the environment in which you are best able to concentrate and the type of work you are planning to do.
·         The best places to study have good light, a comfortable temperature and enough desk space—usually your dorm room, your apartment or the library.
·         For completing problem sets or brainstorming possible test questions, you may want to study with a group or at least in a setting where fellow students are available for discussion.
·         When you are reading book chapters or working on a research paper, you are probably better off in a less social environment.
Improve Your Study Habits
Here are simple steps you can take to help you get a handle on studying:
·         Have a routine for where and when you study.
·         Choose reasonable and specific goals that you can accomplish for each study session.
·         Do things that are harder or require more intense thought at your most productive time of day.
·         Take breaks if you need them so you don’t waste time looking at material but not absorbing it.
·         Get to know students whom you respect and can study with or contact to ask questions.
·         Keep up with the workload and seek help when you need it.

Summary
In a cross country race between two teams a remarkable act of righteousness happened. The first and second place runners were Dep and Jenna respectably. Dep held on to the first place spot for almost all the race. Then in the last 100 yards she popped the growth hip bone. She immediately stopped running because of the pain. Jenna who admitted that throughout the race was never able to pass her saw this and stopped. Instead of using this opportunity to pass Dep and win she stopped and helped Dep to the finish line where she gave Dep a slight push ensuring she won.
Reflection
This act shows the great sportsmanship that Jenna Huff has. I believe that more people should learn from her example. It is not whether you win or lose but how you do it. This act of kindness formed a great trust between the two.

Student Success Statement
“It’s better to be alone than to be
 in bad company.”
-Anon

This statement is telling us not to fall into the crowd of people that do the wrong. Do what is right even if that is not the popular thing. If you stay around people who do wrong things then the chances of you getting influenced to do bad things as well increases. In the best case scenario find people who share your interests and are supporters of choosing the right.

“Improvement begins with I.”
-Anon

Reflection
What this is trying to say is that the first step of improving is with you wanting to improve. It won’t just magically happen you have to want to improve and do what is necessary to improve. For example if you want to be a better piano player it won’t happen overnight you have to practice constantly. Put in the amount of effort that you want to improve

7 habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 7
Part 2
Habit 7: Sharpen the saw

3) Heart: Always do what is right so that your heart, your conscience, will feel peaceful. When you do wrong, your conscience will prick you and create regretful sensations within your heart. When you do what you honestly feel, you won’t have any regrets. Your heart is your internal compass—it gives you direction and discernment. Just like a magnetic compass gives you directions, even true north, your personal compass, your heat, will point you in the true north, the exact direction and path you need to trod.
4) Soul: Study scriptures and other sacred literature daily. In other words, feed your spirit because your spirit needs spiritual food just like you physical body needs temporal food to survive. Pondering, meditating, and reflecting are excellent Soul shaping activities. Try writing your thoughts, feelings, aspirations, concerns, and decisions in a dairy or journal. Writing helps you focus and make good decisions.
Get into the habit of daily improving your body (physical fitness), our mind, your heart, and your soul.

“Loyalty”

Two girl softball teams were playing against each other when the batter Sarah, a senior, scored her first home run. The crowd cheered. That is until they noticed that Sarah was unable to complete the home run because she had injured her knee on first base. Her team was not allowed to substitute someone with her. Then a miraculous display of sportsmanship took place. Two girls, Mallory and Liz, who were from the opposite team, picked up Sarah and got her to each of the bases until she completed a home run.
This is one of the greatest displays of sportsmanship I have seen. There needs to be more of these types of people among athletes. Even if you are on the opposite team you should still respect the other team.

Part 1
Habit 7: Sharpen the saw
Teens should never get too busy living to take time to renew themselves. When teens “sharpen the saw” they are keeping their personal self sharp so that they van better deal with life. It means regular renewal and strengthening the four key dimensions of the body, mind, heart, and soul.
1)      Body. Eat wholesome foods, fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Avoid illegal drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, and tattooing. Exercise regularly and effectively. Get plenty of rest at night. Get to bed early at night and get up early each morning. “Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”
2)      Mind. Think positively. Read. Study. Think. Analyze. Seek to read a good book each month. Then each week. Ask intelligent questions. Observe. Develop your mind through positive “self talk

“Alone we can do so little;
Together we can do so much”
-Helen Keller
Reflection.
There is only so much that someone can accomplish when they try to do everything by themselves. In order to achieve the maximum results working together is a must. In a discussion to solve a problem one person might be extremely knowledgeable and might be able to think up a good solution. However chances are that if other people also take part in this creation of a solution, then the overall result will be better. This is because people are different, and it is their different way of thinking that allows for two people with a different mindset to create the best possible solution. Learn to work together and your chances of success will increase.

7 habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 6: Synergize
Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than they could alone. Through this habit, teens learn it doesn't have to be “your way” or “my way” but rather a better way, a higher way. Synergy allows teen to value differences and to better appreciate others. Synergy is the reward. The delicious fruit you will taste as you get better at living the other habits, especially at thinking win-win and seeking first to understand. Learning to synergize is like learning to form v formations with others instead of trying to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and farther you’ll go. Synergy doesn't just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there. And the foundation of getting there is: Learn to celebrate differences.
A good band is a great example of synergy. It’s not just the drums, or the guitar, or the sax, or the vocalist, its all of them together that make up the “sound”. Each band member brings his or her own strengths to the table to create something better than they each could alone. No instrument is more important than another, just different.

“So often, in our quest to be more popular and to be part of the “in group” we lose sight of things that are far more important”.
-         Sean Covey
Reflection
http://www.thelakeviewhusky.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/bentyler_popularity_eco-law.net_1.jpgSean Covey is stating that many people lose sight of their original objective. Examples of this are many students generally from middle school on. Say a student wants to be a doctor and studies hard each day. Then there are the students who do anything but study and are considered the popular ones. The hard working student might begin to stop studying because he or she wants to be popular just like the others. It is important to remember not to fall into those types of groups. Choose the right whether it is the popular thing to do or not.

7 habits of highly successful students
Habit 5
5. Seek first to understand, and then to be understood because most people don’t listen very well. One of the great frustrations in life is than many don’t feel understood. This habit will ensure your teen learns the most important communication skill there is: active listening.
Why is this habit the key to communication? It’s because the deepest need of the human heart isto be understood. Everyone wants to be respected and valued for who they are – a unique, one-of-a-kind, never to be cloned individual. People won’t expose their soft middles unless they feel genuine liove and understanding. Once they feel it, however, they will tell you more than they want to hear. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
Listen with your eyes, heart, and ears. 7 percent of communication is contained in the words we use. The rest comes from body language (53 percent) and how we say words, or the tone and feeling reflected in our voice (40 percent).
Most people are eager to talk and would rather talk than listen. We have one mouth and two ears. This means we should listen twice as much as we talk. We actually learn more while listening rather than when we talk. Learn to listen and listen to learn.
Seek first to understand and then to be understood.

“The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law I will obey, which precedeth all the others is---“I will form good habits and become their slaves.”

What this person is trying to make us understand is the value of having good habits. If you have good habits you will be successful and if you have bad habits things will be much more difficult. 7 habits of highly Successful Teens
Habits 2
Habit 2: Begin with the end in Mind
If teens aren’t clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals, and what they stand for, they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the opinions of others. Help your teen create a personal mission or statement which will act as a road map and direct guide to his decision-making prizes
“Keep your eyes on the prize”. Determine your desired prize and don’t quit until you have realized the achievement of your prize. Then set another prize, another goal or desire that you would really like to achieve. Begin with the achieving of your prize in mind. Visualize and then realize. Start by having a target in mind; know where you are going.
One prize or goal you definitely need to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable graduation from high school- that you will receive your diploma honestly and with integrity—that you earned it with perfect honesty.

“Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man’s doing but my
own. I am the force.”
-Elaine Maxwell
Reflection

What we should take from this is, do not blame others for your own actions. Blaming someone else is much easier than blaming yourself, but it is never right. Your actions bring a reaction. Whether they are good such as an A on one of your tests, or an F on one of your test, it is your effort that made it so. Do not blame the teacher for not putting enough effort into the lesson when you did not put enough effort into researching and preparing. Choose the right and take the initiative.

7 habits of highly Successful Teens
Habit 1
Habit 1: Be Proactive
Being proactive is the key to unlocking the other habits. Help your teen take control and responsibility for his/her life. Proactive people understand that they are responsible for their own happiness or unhappiness. They don’t blame others for their actions or feelings. Proactive people realize that the ball is in their court, that they are the captain of their own ship that they are in control, control of their decisions, thought, choices, goals, actions, and priorities. Proactive people are self-starters, they don’t wait to be told what to do, and they press forward with enthusiasm toward the achievement of their assignment, their duties, their responsibilities, and their obligations. Choosing to do what is right is a proactive decision. Obey the rules. Obey the law. obey the coach. Obey the school policies. Obey your parents. Obey with exactness, and great things will come to you. Be proactive and take the initiative.

Reflection

This common saying can mean many things based on the person. For example if your goal is to become an engineer, when you are having difficulties at college or university, remember that all your hard work will pay off. Never lose sight of your goal and you will make it. It also means don’t fall into temptation, don’t fall into the crowd of people that do the wrong, stay away from drugs and other illegal actives for they will greatly deviate you from your goal.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
For teens, life is not a playground, it’s a jungle. And, being the parent of a teenager isn’t any walk in the park, either. , The 7 habits of highly effective teens, author Sean Covey attempts to provide “a compass to help teens and their parents navigate the problems they encounter daily.
How will they deal with peer pressure? Motivation? success or lack of thereof? The life of a teenager is full of tough issues and life changing decisions.
While it’s all well and good to tell kids how to live their lives,” teens watch what you do more than they listen to what you say”, Covey says. So practice what you preach. Your examples can be very influential.
Covey himself has done well by following a parent example. His dad, Stephen Covey, wrote the book & habits of highly Successful people, which sold over 15 million copies. Sean’s a chip off the old block, and no slacker. His own book has rung in more than a respectable 2 million copies sold. Here are his even habits, and some ideas for helping your teen understand and apply them

… Takes responsibility for his/her own learning
Online learning can be a powerful stimulating, engaging experience for the student who can work and think independently. However, since most--- if not all --- if all of the learning takes place in your own time, you will not have the kind of direct supervision you would in a classroom. Online learning therefore requires a significant commitment from you. All education comes down to what you’re willing to invest in the experience—this is practically true in the online environment. Commitment, self-discipline and self-motivation are all key qualities to ensuring success in an online course! … Is comfortable and confident with written communication reading and writing are the basis if most online courses, so its critical that you feel comfortable with this form of communication. While some courses contain modules that include videos or other activities, all of them require significant amounts of reading. And nearly all of you communication with your classmates and your instructor will be in writing. if these are week areas for you, you will want to address those issues prior to enrolling or while enrolled in an online course. “Goodness is the only investment that

-         Henry David Thoreau
What this means is that you can never go wrong with doing what is right. All action brings a consequence. However depending on what type of choice you take that consequence could be good or bad. Doing wrong will bare bad consequences, you could get a ticket or maybe even go to jail. In contrast doing what is right, will bring with it good consequences, they may not come right away but they Will.

10.  Successful Students are good time managers. Successful students do not procrastinate. They learned that time control id life control and have constantly chosen to be in control of their life.
An element truth: you will either control time or be controlled by it! It’s your choice: you can lead or be led, establish control or relinquish control, steer your own course or follow others. Failure to take control of their own time is probably the no.1 study skill problem for college students. It ultimately causes many students to become non students Procrastinators are good excuse-makers. Don’t make academics harder on yourself than it has to be. Stop procrastinating. And don’t wait until tomorrow to do it!
