Student Success Statement
“Honesty is the corner stone of character. The honest man or women seeks not merely to avoid criminal or illegal acts, but to be scrumptiously fair, upright, fearless in both action and expression. Honesty pays dividends both in dollars and in peace of mind,”
-B.C. Forbes

Reflection

I believe that what Forbes says is correct. Honesty shows character. If you are an honest person you can rest assured that you will always have a clear conscience and peace of mind. In contrast if you are not honest you won’t have a clear conscience and will always have to live with the, what if I had said the truth?

Student Success statement
“Stop worrying about whether you are going to win or lose and focus your full attention on what is happening right this moment.”
-Phil Jackson

Reflection

Phil Jackson’s goal is to make people more concentrated on the present. It is good to set goals for the future but, in order to achieve those goals you have to start at the present; NOW. If you wait too long you risk the chance of never having those goals fulfilled. Don’t over think this because there is one sure way to be successful; always choose the right.

Student Success Statement
“Truth is the only safe ground
To stand upon.”
-Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Reflection

I believe that what this statement means is that you will always be fine if you tell the truth. On the other hand if you lie you will be treading dangerous grounds. When you tell the truth you have nothing to hide and if you didn't do anything wrong then you won’t have negative consequences. Give others the respect they deserve by giving them the truth.

Student Success Statement
“Everyone is the architect
of their own learning.”
-Claudius
Reflection

What this statement means is that whether you have learned much or little, you can only praise or blame yourself. Your improvement will reflect on the initiative you should or didn't . If you want to be someone that is highly knowledgeable on a subject, take the initiative and learn more than just what is required.

Student success statement
“Start with what is right rather
Than what is acceptable”
-Peter F. Drucker

Reflection

Drucker is trying to tell us that there are many things in the world that aren't right and yet are still acceptable. Remember that right will always be right and popularity will not affect it. Sometimes the law allows for certain things to pass even though they are not right. You should focus on doing what is right rather than doing what other people think is acceptable.

Student Success Statement
“To be great—concentrated.”
-Orson Swett Marden

Reflection
I believe that the point Marden wants to make through his statement is, to be great one has to be concentrated. Meaning, when you set a goal you should be focused on it and refrain from making bad decisions that can lead you away from your goal. . For example if your goal is to be a doctor, stay away from drugs because they will only hinder your goal.

Student Success Statement
“The man who has no
Imagination has no wings”
-Muhammad Ali
Reflection
What this statement is trying to say is basically someone without imagination can’t go anywhere. They lack direction in their life. Imagine your-self as an engineer and you will get there, imagine yourself as a great basketball player and you will get there. A person with no imagination won’t be able to set goals for him or herself.

Student Success Statement
“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On” has solved and will always solve the problems of the human race.”
-Calvin Coolidge, 30th president of the United States
Reflection
I agree with our past president what good is being talented if you are not doing anything with that talent. Like-wise what good is being a genius at something if you are not doing anything with it. If you really only on talent or genius you will never reach your full potential. If you feel that you are not good at something don’t despair, because that is what practice is for; Practice makes perfect.

Student Success Statement
“To see what is right and to not do
It is want of courage.”
-Confucius
Reflection
My interpretation of confusius’ statement is to be knowing of what is the right thing to do and yet not taking actions to do it demonstrates a want of courage and lack of it. Doing what is right is not always the easiest thing to do. Sometimes doing what is right is against what everyone around you thinks is. Remember the popularity of the action doesn't make it right

Student Success Statement
“Improve your performance by improving your attitude.”
-anon

Reflection
If for example you have a bad attitude towards your job your performance will be lacking. Change your attitude to a more positive one and you will see a great difference in your performance. The quality of your work will shine. This is also true if your line of work includes sports. Improve your sportsmanship and your game will also improve.

Student Success Statement
“Always do right.”
-Mark Twain

Reflection

This statement is self-explanatory. It is just three simply word but it can change everything about your life. Remember nothing bad will ever come of doing what is right. There are consequences for every choice you make but if you choose to do what’s right you can expect that none of those consequences will be negative. Choose the right

Student success statement
“Gold medals don’t make champions…
Hard work does.”
--Anon
Reflection
The quote by anon is similar to many that say the … doesn't make… What this is basically addressing is a misconception. For example in the one above people may believe that medals make a person a champion. What Anon what use to see is the reality that it is the other way around medals are made for champions. Other common misconceptions are things like being recognized word wide makes someone intelligent but you have to look at it the other way, you will be recognized worldwide because you are intelligent.

Student Success Statement
“The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character.”
-Margaret Chase Smith

Reflection
I completely agree with this statement. Right will always be right even if others think it is not. For example, if everyone at your school was to be using drugs that would not make it any less wrong. If someone chose the right and continue to live without the use of illegal drugs that would show that that person has good character. If everyone at your school is bulling someone don’t join in, instead do what’s right and find a way to help the bullied student. If others don’t agree with what you are doing, it won’t matter because you will feel it in your conscience that you are doing what is right.

Student Success Statement
“Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking our true potential.”
-Liane Cordes
This statement touches in the subject of effort. For example you could be a natural born genius but if you don’t put any effort into your work, if you don’t try and do well in school chances are you won’t far. On the other hand you could be a person with an average IQ, but if you put the effort into your work, you will be much more likely to be successful.

Student Success Statement
“When an archer misses the mark, he turns and looks at the fault within himself. Failure to hit the bulls-eye is never the fault of the target. To improve your aim, improve yourself.”
-Gilbert Arland
Reflection
I believe that the main message in this statement is, take responsibility for your actions. For example if you do badly on a test, don’t make excuses and blame the teacher because you've only to blame yourself. If you didn't know the material well it was your job to ask for the extra help. Don’t blame others and accept that your choices have consequences. Choose the right and always do what is right.

Student Success Statement
“The first law of success… is concentration; to bend all the energies to one point, and go directly to that point, looking neither to the right nor to the left.”
-Williams Matthews
Reflection
I believe that William Matthews speaks the truth. If you want to be truly successful at something you have to work at it. Ignore all the things that can make you deviate from your goal. If you put all your effort into achieving what you set, then you will undoubtedly do so.
Choose the right

Student Success Statement
“Your Future is created by what you do today,
Not tomorrow”
-Robert Kiyosaki
Reflection
I believe that what this statement is trying to say is to take action now. Don’t tell yourself that you are going to do great in all your class and that you are going to study for that final test that is coming up, and then tell yourself that you will start tomorrow. If you think like that you will never get things done. It can also mean that all the choices you make today will be reflected in where you end up in the future. If you chose the right then you will be successful, if you chose the wrong then there will be negative consequences.

Student success statement
“There is no justification ever for choosing
any part of what you know to be evil”
-Ayn Rand
(Novelist, Philosopher, Playwright, screenwriter)
Reflection
I agree with Ayn Rand in that there is no reason to do something evil. Many may say that the ends justify the means but I cannot agree with that. If that is the logic you have then think of a better solution for your problem. Evil will always be evil no matter what. If you think that you are helping out a friend by choosing to do something wrong that hurts someone, then I suggest you make better friends. Choose the right and always do what is right.

 Student success statement
“When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest tyo improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece. The rule is even more important in life than in basketball. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can never make up for a lost day.”
-John Wooden
Reflection
What john wooden is trying to tell us is that to become successful you have to try. You won’t become successful by sitting on a couch and doing nothing, you have to apply yourself. Make steps towards achieving your goals. It might seem hard at first but then when you get into the routine of things; it will become a habit and be much easier. Don’t tell yourself that you will start tomorrow, start TODAY.

Student Success Statement
“Every time I've done
Something that doesn't feel
Right,
its ended up not being right”
-Mario Cuomo

Reflection
I believe that what Mario Cuomo stated is true for most of us. We all have a conscience that tells us what is right and what is wrong. If you are thinking of making a bad decision something in your conscience will tell you it is wrong. Ultimately it is your decision but if you do what your conscience tells you, you will have made the right choice or at the very least not have made a wrong one.
